Professional experience

  • Finance and Administration Manager
  • Civic Forum on Human Development
  • Since 01.2010
  • When I joined the Civic Forum I did not have as much experience in the world of NGO work and this experience ended up being the bulk of my experience. In 2010 when I joined the organization they were coming from a period of being inactive, thus there were no policies that governed the organization at the time. I was tasked with the responsibility of creating the whole accounting, finance and administration system. I took the knowledge I had gained before this employment and after carrying out additional research into the accounting standards, policies, and procedures that governed other NGOs in the industry, I developed the organization's finance and administration manual. From there I went further to develop Human resource policies, procurement policies and procedures, and the organization's code of conduct to name a few. We got a 5-year grant from an international donor that pushed the organization forward and I was responsible for managing relations and ensuring compliance with the donor's requirements and those of the many donors to come. I have had the privilege of managing funding from the European Union, USAID, UN Habitat, IOM and many more, while I was employed at the civic forum. I am still employed at the Civic Forum on Human Development and I still oversee their accounting, finance and administration functions.
  • Finance and Administration officer
  • Inter-Country People's Aid (Zimbabwe)
  • 03.2009 - 12.2009
  • When I started at Inter-Country People's Aid (IPA) I had no experience in the NGO sector. I was hired as a field officer but during that very first month, the finance office needed a finance officer to start right away. After looking at my qualifications they hired me to keep the finance office going because the finance officer before me had abruptly left the organization without notice to accept a position at another organization. At the time IPA was being funded by a small donor called the Oak Foundation and the well-known United Nations World Food Programme. Here I learned how to manage donor relations through interacting with the finance managers of our donors and leasing with various programme staff within and outside of IPA. This is also where I learned about contract management and donor compliance. The organization had numerous staff but because of a cut in available donor funding that affected us and other organizations in the industry, we ended up having to let go of a lot of staff in October of the same year. I stayed with the organization for another 2 months before accepting a more lucrative position with the Civic Forum on Human Development.
  • Accountant/Financial Administrator
  • Wynbod Enterprises T/A Wynoil (Zimbabwe)
  • 04.2006 - 02.2009
  • In the year of my industrial attachement for my first degree is when I first worked for Wynbod Enterprises that was trading as Wynoil. It was a oil company that would supply bulk fuel and fuel transportation services to clients. This was the first year of their operation in Zimbabwe and when I started it was just me and the Managing director. We grew rapidly and I was responsible at first for all basic tasks that needed handling as I was only an attachee. As operations increased I was given more and more responsibility and this included managing bank accounts, making payments, receiving payments, debtor and creditor management and many other administrative functions. As other staff were hired such as drivers and secretaries I was able to shed some of the more menial responsibilities to others and focus more on the accounts, finance and admin part of the company. When the year was over I stayed on for as long as possible before I had to go back to school in Bulawayo to complete my bachelors degree. I kept in contact with staff and whenever I was in Harare I would go and help out at the company. When I completed my degree I went back and worked for the company as accountant and financial administrator.
